The Rajasthan Royals (RR) won their eighth TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match, defeating the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 24 runs on Sunday at Mumbai's Brabourne Stadium. LSG was 15/0 after two overs, chasing 179 before Trent Boult quashed Quinton de Kock and Ayush Badoni on successive deliveries.
While Neesham dismissed de Kock with a jagged catch inside the circle, Badoni was caught LBW by the left-arm seamer. KL Rahul hit a stunning lofted shot for a maximum before being caught by Jaiswal within the circle off Prasidh Krishna's bowling. LSG was 34-3 at the end of the powerplay and figured themselves in a difficult situation. After both batters added sixes, Deepak Hooda and Krunal Pandya stitched a crucial partnership for the fourth wicket.
LSG was 66-3 at the end of 10 overs, and the fifty partnership between the two had ended. Hooda attained his half-century in the 15th over, and LSG needed 72 runs off 30 balls. Chahal took the crucial wicket of Hooda after the opposition skipper stumped the all-rounder.
Previously, RR, who chose to bat first, made two changes, naming Jimmy Neesham and Obed McCoy in the 11. Yashasvi Jaiswal started well with consecutive fours, but Avesh Khan took the first wicket for LSG after rattling Jos Buttler's stumps. Jaiswal was negotiating boundaries with skipper Sanju Samson. After Jaiswal hit three fours and a six, the final over of the powerplay produced 21 runs. Trent Boult hit consecutive fours in the final over as RR scored 24 runs in the final two overs to post a first-innings total of 178/6.
