The Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated the Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 8 wickets on Wednesday at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai in the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Mitchell Marsh and David Warner's dominant match-winning century stand resulted in a decisive victory for DC when they chased down the target with eleven balls to spare. With the score at 161, DC lost Srikar Bharat in the first over when the opener was caught behind Trent Boult's bowling. DC was under pressure as Prasidh Krishna delivered a maiden across to the other end.
After an initial wicket, David Warner and Mitchell Marsh led the rally, and DC was 38-1 after 6 overs. The duo was up for a fifty-fifty partnership, with Marsh handling the brunt of the hitting. Warner smashed his first six before being given a respite in the ninth over.
DC led by 74 runs at the midway point before Marsh hit his half-century with a six. The century partnership was over for the second wicket, and Delhi Capitals were in command with 47 needed off the final five balls. Marsh smashed two huge sixes as Warner remained second fiddle. Marsh's innings came to an end when Chahal removed him for 89. Warner completed his half-century by finishing the chase with a four in the 18thover.
Previously, RR made one alteration to their batting order: Rassie van der Dussen substituted Shimron Hetmyer in the eleven. RR dropped Jos Buttler early in the innings when he was nabbed inside the circle of the delivery of Chetan Sakariya. RR was 68-2 at the midway point, with Devdutt Padikkal joining Ashwin at the crease. After a quiet couple of overs, Ashwin relieved pressure by smashing his second maximum.
