The Mumbai Indians (MI) won their second successive TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match, defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) by 5 runs on Friday at Mumbai's Brabourne Stadium. Meanwhile, MI made one alteration to their batting order: Murugan Ashwin substituted Hrithik Shokeen in the eleven.
MI continued to hold their score of 177-6 with a superb last over bowled by Daniel Sams, who surrendered only 3 runs and drove the team to a 5-run victory.
Pursuing 178, GT openers Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha got off to a flying start, putting up fifty for the first wicket inside the powerplay.
Saha did the brunt of the batting and was perfecting his timing as the opener hammered five fours and two sixes. Gill joined his teammate and scored a four and a six, giving GT a 54/0 game at the end of the powerplay. MI made the quantum leap when Gill was caught in the outfield off the bowling of Murugan Ashwin. Following Saha's departure in a similar manner, Ashwin grabbed his second wicket. |
